Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure, and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
